SWGC is one of the fifty public TVET colleges registered and operating under the authority of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). To ensure that all students have the opportunity to study without financial difficulties, the college offers bursary funds through a government scheme called NSFAS.
If you wish to study at SWGC or are already enrolled and come from a family with an income of R350,000 or less, you qualify to apply for a bursary from NSFAS. NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training, established by the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999), to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public TVET colleges.

Who Qualifies For SWGC NSFAS Application 2025 /2026
Below are those who qualify for Nsfas bursaries at SWGC for 2025:
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
Which Students Of SWGC Are Not Eligible For SWGC NSFAS Application 2025 /2026
If you fall among the below category, you are not qualified for Nsfas bursary at SWGC:
- Students who have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the
- duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

To apply for the bursary you will need to have certified and scanned copies of the following documents:
- Identity Document/Birth Certificate
- Latest Academic Results
- Proof of parents’ income (If parent/s employed)
- Death Certificate/s (If parent/s deceased)
- Doctor’s Certificate (If permanently disabled)
How Much Is Given To SWGC Students From The Nsfas Bursary
The following is the amount given to SWGC students from Nsfas:
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

- Create a myNsfas account via : https//my.nsfas.org.za or download the Nsfas App on google play store.
- Input your ID number which also represents your username
- Click on Apply to update your personal information
- Upload the application’s supporting documents
- Submit your application
