In South Africa, Tvet colleges, or Technical and Vocational Education and Training colleges are institutions that provide education and training in practical skills and applied sciences. These colleges focus on equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for specific industries, trades, or professions. The courses and programmes offered in these colleges encompass a wide range of educational programs designed to provide hands-on skills and knowledge in specific fields.
Most prospective applicants would have loved to enrol in this college to chase their career in a course or programme that is aligned to the career path but due to financial challenges, they end up in the streets. For the South African government to eradicate this difficulty, it offers funds in the form of bursaries to deserving students to help cater for their educational expenses through the NSFAS scheme.
Currently, there are 50 (fifty) registered and accredited public Tvet Colleges in South Africa that opperates under the auspices of the Department Of Higher Education and Training with their courses and programmes offered, supervised by UMALUSI. These colleges in collaboration with Nsfas provide funds and bursaries to students who are from families with an annual income of about R350,000. TVET Colleges With NSFAS Application Date For 2025/2026
Below is the online application date for Nsfas for the academic year 2025 for Tvet Colleges:
- Tvet College Nsfas Application Open Date 2025: The online application for Nsfas for Tvet Colleges for the academic year 2025 will be open by the 28th of September 2024.
- Tvet College Nsfas Application Closing Date 2025: The online application for Nsfas for Tvet Colleges for the academic year 2025 will be closing by the 31st of January 2025.
- Nsfas Tvet College Semester 2 Applications Open Date 2025: The Nsfas application date open for Tvet College 2nd semester 2025 will be on the 9th of June 2025
- Nsfas Tvet College Semester 2 Applications Closing Date 2025: The Nsfas application closing date for Tvet College 2nd semester 2025 will be on the 26th of July 2025.
- Tvet College’s Trimester Nsfas Application Date 2025-2026: The Nsfas application date for Tvet College’s trimester 2025 will be open on the 2nd of September and will be closing on the 20th of September.
Who Qualifies For TVET Colleges With NSFAS 2025/2026
You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2023 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
Who Is Not Eligible To Apply For Nsfas At Tvet Colleges
If you fall within this category of people, you are not qualified to apply for NSFAS:
- Students who have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
How Much Is Given To Tvet Colleges Students By Nsfas For 2025/2026
Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines. Below is how much is given to students by Nsfas:
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
